Welcome Marion, new blogger!
Meet Marion Burns, cerebralpalsyscotland.org.uk's newest blogger. Marion tells us a bit about her and her life.
Hello! My name is Marion I have been coming to Bobath for most of my life and I’ve done a few blogs before and at the end of last year I was thrilled to asked to become a volunteer, of course I said Yes! I would like to be here once a week as I love the idea of being part of a team.
I’m a typical woman that likes to be active, shopping and meet with my friends. My favourite hobby is being part of a wheelchair dance team. We meet every second week and what a laugh we have during practices, I have met many good friends through the dancing. At least once a year I visit a place called Kielder staying at the Calvert Trust where my active side gets let out. There are loads to do and all are wheelchair friendly which is excellent! My favourite activities are going on the zipwire or going through the lovely forest on a golf buggy. I’m always looking out for new things to try.
How I live
I have my own house and live independently while I am there. Unfortunately due to support issues or funding I am not able to spend as much time as I’d hope. I am hopeful my situation will get better soon. I spend the rest of my time at my parents house it’s not ideal for a 34 year old but my brother and the sister visit often and I enjoy it when we are all together.
I am hoping my blogs will bring information to people and possibly encourage you to have the most independent life as possible.
My message to parents of children with CP
If any parent of a child who has recently been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy is reading this, my advice would be to believe in your childs ability and allow them to do and make decisions for themselves if possible. My family have always encouraged me to make my own decisions and this has really helped me become a strong minded, independent woman
I hope you enjoyed reading about me and I can’t wait to start my next blog!
Fact about me:
I’m a huge fan of Take That & Harry Potter! ! !
