Katherine is a young professional with cerebral palsy, who has worked in government for the last five years. Katherine joined the Civil Service after completing a Psychology degree, and moved around government departments before becoming a business manager in a Home Office Agency this year.
As part of her work in Government Katherine is also co-chair of the Civil Service Sexual and Domestic Abuse Network (CSSDAN), a cross government network which she set up with a colleague a few years ago to support Civil Servants who have experienced abuse, or support those who have experienced abuse.
Katherine is very passionate about breaking down the misconceptions of cerebral palsy and how it affects her and others with the condition. Since leaving home nine years ago, Katherine has lived an increasingly independent life, with various different care arrangements to support this. Katherine currently works full time supported by her workplace assistant and carers helping her at home in the mornings and evenings.
She is very keen to use her experiences to show both able-bodied and disabled people what may be possible with the right support. In addition to this she to dispel the myth for young people with cerebral palsy that working is not an option because of their disabilities.
